The Bahamas’ Government has now published the 2018 amendments to the VAT Act, which were passed in June. These amendments took effect on 1 July, 2018.
The major change is an increase in the VAT rate from 7.5% to 12%. There are also new VAT exemptions and other changes affecting a number of industries including construction, real estate and retail.
During the passing of the Bahamas’ 2018/2019 fiscal budget in the House of Assembly, the government amended a number of existing laws. These amendments took effect 1st July 2018.
